Not Sure What's Really Going on with Your Reader?
Snack and Recess is Now Offering Reading Assessments
A Snack and Recess Reading assessment gives you clear, specific answers-- grounded in the science of reading, not guesswork.
A 1-hour, one-on-one student assessment session
A 30-minute parent debrief meeting to walk through results together
A written summary sent after, outlining findings and next steps
What we look at (based on your child's needs):
Phonological awareness
Phonics knowledge
Oral reading fluency
Reading comprehension
Spelling patterns
Every assessment is tailored — we only screen the areas that matter for your child, so you get a focused picture instead of a generic report.
1-hour student assessment
30-minute parent debrief
Written summary with findings and next steps
Everything in the Standard Assessment, plus:
Communication with your child's current teacher
Review of existing records (neuropsychological evaluations, school-created literacy plans, 504s, or IEPs) to inform a fuller picture
The Comprehensive tier is a great fit if your child already has a diagnosis, plan, or team of support in place — it lets us build on what's already known instead of starting from scratch.
You'll walk away with a clear, written understanding of your child's reading strengths and needs. If it's helpful, we can match you with a tutor suited to those needs — but there's no obligation to purchase tutoring. The assessment stands on its own as a tool for understanding where your child is and what to do next.
Ready to get started?
A clearer picture of their child’s current reading skills, specific information about strengths and areas of difficulty, insight into the skills that may be making reading feel challenging, prioritized recommendations for instruction and practice, practical next steps for school, tutoring, or home support, and greater confidence about what their child needs next.
The goal isn’t simply to assign a reading level.
It’s to understand how your child reads, identify the skills that need support, and create a clear path forward.
Individual Reading Assessment
✔ One-on-one assessment
✔ Carefully selected tasks based on the student’s age and needs
✔ Review of foundational reading skills
✔ Individualized findings and recommendations
✔ Parent follow-up and next-step planning
✔ Flexible scheduling
Every assessment is designed around your child—not a generic checklist or one-size-fits-all score. The result is useful, understandable information you can use to make confident decisions about what comes next.
When the Schoolwork Isn’t the Problem—but Managing It Is
The School Systems Reset is a four-week executive-function coaching program for middle and early high school students who struggle to capture, plan, complete, or submit their work reliably.
You may recognize the pattern:
“My child does the work but doesn’t turn it in.”
“We don’t find out about missing assignments until grades are posted.”
“The planner exists, but it isn’t being used.”
“Every evening becomes an argument about homework.”
“My child has a list of assignments but cannot turn it into a realistic plan.”
These students may need meaningful support—but the barrier isn’t necessarily understanding the academic material, and ongoing subject-area tutoring may not be the right solution.
During the School Systems Reset, we identify where the student’s current system is breaking down and help them build a practical, personalized approach that works in real school life.
A 60-minute student-and-parent kickoff
Review of the student’s planner, backpack, school portals, and assignment routines
Identification of the student’s primary breakdown point
A personalized system for capturing, planning, completing, and submitting assignments
Three weekly 25-minute coaching sessions
Brief, scheduled “show me” accountability check-ins
One 20-minute parent review
A written plan and progress summary
A clear recommendation to conclude coaching, continue with maintenance support, or seek a different type of support
We are offering the School Systems Reset to our first five families at a founding-family price of $349.
