These groups are designed for students who would benefit from extra support, confidence-building, and structured reading practice in a small-group setting.
The K–2 Reading Readiness group is ideal for younger students who are still developing foundational reading skills like phonological awareness, sound-symbol connection, blending, and early decoding.
The Summer Reading Lab is designed for students in grades 3–6 who can read independently but may need support with fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, or confidence.
If you are unsure which group is the best fit, reach out — I’m happy to help guide placement.
Students are grouped thoughtfully based on age, reading profile, and instructional needs whenever possible.
The goal is for students to feel both supported and appropriately challenged. Small group size (2–6 students) allows instruction to be responsive and flexible.
If I believe a student would be better served in a different group or setting, I will communicate that honestly.
Sessions are structured, engaging, and highly interactive.
Students participate in explicit reading instruction, hands-on activities, guided practice, games, discussion, and supported reading tasks tailored to the focus of the group.
These are not worksheet-heavy sessions. The goal is to build skills while also helping students feel more confident, successful, and willing to engage with reading.
Because groups are small and instruction builds across sessions, consistent attendance is encouraged whenever possible.
However, I understand that summer schedules can be busy. Due to the group nature of the classes, we cannot offer makeups, but I will do my best to provide guidance or materials to help students stay connected to the learning.
Every child is different, and no program can promise overnight results.
That said, many students show noticeable growth in confidence, participation, reading stamina, fluency, and foundational skills when instruction is targeted and consistent.
The goal of these sessions is not just to “avoid summer slide,” but to help students begin the school year feeling stronger, more capable, and more confident as readers.
My goal is always to create a positive and supportive experience for students.
If concerns arise about placement, readiness, or group fit, I will communicate openly with families and work collaboratively to problem-solve next steps whenever possible.
I want students to feel successful — and I want families to feel confident that they are in the right place.
